Albufera lake trail and a sensory experience in a family run eco-orange orchard

Your adventure begins with a gentle guided walk through the breath taking surroundings of the Albufera Natural Park, just south of Valencia.

Feel the Mediterranean breeze as you wander along peaceful trails, and soak in the tranquil atmosphere of one of Spain’s most treasured wetlands.

At the edge of the vast freshwater lagoon, you’ll pause to admire the sparkling lake – a serene mirror reflecting sky and reed with the mountains in the distance. This is the home of paella and in summer the lake water is used to flood the rice fields for Spain´s signature dish.

After, sit back and enjoy a scenic 45 minute drive over the lake which is home to many migratory birds and later passing vast orchards of citrus fruits, almonds and persimmons.

Arriving at a traditional Valencia orange orchard, you’ll step into a world of vibrant colours and intoxicating aromas. The orchard has been family run since 1850 and the two guides, Isabel and Jesus, are the owners who still live in the 19th century estate on the farm. Discover the outside of their traditional stately home, the Romantic garden and the small private chapel.

The tour begins with sampling fresh, juicy oranges and other citrus fruits straight from the source. All the produce is farmed ecologically. Taste the sunshine in every bite and discover the surprising nuances between varieties. Learn about the Valencia orange history and how it has become the world´s largest producer of oranges.

Then your guide will take you among the trees, sharing the secrets of citrus cultivation – from blossom to harvest with some cool surprises. They grow more than 30 types of citrus and other fruits. Learn about local varieties, sustainable farming traditions, and the deep cultural roots oranges have in this region.
