Guided cycle route to the Turia riverbed gardens, City of Arts and Sciences, El Saler beaches and Albufera lake

Bike to the Albufera Lake

This fantastic half day trip enables you to see the best of the city´s attractions and also experience natural beauty with the nature reserve wetlands south of the city.

First we will collect our bikes from a bike hire shop and cycle along the riverbed stopping at the points of interest. At the end of the riverbed we reach the famous City of Arts and Sciences. The unique and futuristic buildings were designed by Valencia´s very own famous architect, Calatrava. This has helped Valencia city to become a hot tourist destination for good reason. Take some amazing photos as we explore the different structures.

Then we take the cycle lane past the port and onto the beach promenades of Pinedo and El Saler. The bike lane follows alongside the beaches and sand dunes and passes through forested areas with views of the mountains in the distance.  You have only just left the city but it feels like pure nature has already started.

The next location is La Devesa nature reserve and its small artificial lake. La Devesa has its own unique ecosystems within the sand dunes.

Very near to the La Devesa artificial lake is the much larger natural Albufera lake, situated just 10km south of Valencia. It is in facts Spain´s largest lake with 24 km2, or nearly the size of Valencia city. However, it is very shallow with only a maximum depth of 1.5m. The lake is a sanctuary for resident and migrating birds.

We will stop at the viewpoint platform to rest, relax and eat our lunch while admiring the views.

The Albufera is a declared natural park with many species of birds and high biodiversity. It also provides the water to flood the surrounding fields to grow the famous paella rice. This is why Valencia is the home of paella.

Then we will begin our route back to the city, and if you like, we can stop at a coastal bar by Pinedo beach for a refreshing drink.

This route is completely flat and follows designated cycle lanes throughout. It is 37 km (23 miles) return trip. The excursion is at a relaxed pace to enjoy the scenery, appreciate the natural beauty and take lots of photos.

You should have moderate physical fitness for this bike tour

Prefer a shorter cycle ride?

If upon reaching the Pinedo beach promenade just past the port you feel you would like to head back to the city, then we can stop for a drink with beach views and then return.
